A Little Intro

Welcome one and all!
For those of you who don't know me (and aren't bothered to check the profile!) I'm Demburds. I decided to make this blog due to an amount of interest generated through my instagram. (Hello, to my instagram friends!)

Now that you know about me it's time to learn a bit about Australia. I figured I'd just do a brief post with a bit of info about some of our more humorous stereotypes (none are meant to be offensive, it's all in good fun!).

Ok, so the stereotypes that are used all depend on where you come from, because obviously nobody says anything about their home state (patriots that we are!).
Let's start with sunny Queensland (QLD). People from QLD are known to be laidback surfer types that like to hang out on the beach.  They're probably considered the most laidback of all the Australians. Towards the middle of the state there are more 'bogan' types (which would be America's versions of rednecks). Obviously, not everybody is like this but that goes with all stereotypes.
Moving down to New South Wales (NSW), we have the cockroaches. I'm 90% sure that NSW people are called cockroaches based on our rugby teams (QLD are the cane toads).  In Sydney, the captial city of NSW, you will find the city that takes after USA cities the most. It's full of fasionistas and there is a constant hustle and bustle as people move around from work, home, etc.
That little red dot in NSW there? That's the ACT or Australian Capital Territory. Stories have it that this area was decided to be Australia's capital territory by finding the midpoint between Sydney and Melbourne (2 of Australia's most populated city).  Canberra is the name of the actual capital city. They're known for having the ability to sell numerous things that are illegal amongst the rest of Australia such as firecrackers. Aside from that fact, the place is known as a government body retirement area. It's a lovely area that is populated mostly by students or politicians.
The capital of South Australia (SA) is Adelaide which is known as the 'City of Churches'...which about sums up the whole state if that's the cities main selling point. Only other things it is well known for is wineries.
In Western Australia (WA) the capital city is Perth. These are the other surfer stereotypes of Australia. They're way out in the middle of nowhere in the desert. I don't know many other stereotypes of the state... perhaps my WA readers can inform us?
Another state that is not known much about is the Northern Territory (NT) with the capital of Darwin. It's not noticed much by others but there is said to be a lot of bogans in that area as well.
Last but not least, there's Tasmania (good ol' TAS) with the capital of Hobart. The rest of Australia jokes about TAS not being a part of the rest of Australia because it's an island by itself. There is also the running joke that those who are born in Tasmania 'have two heads'.

Alright, now we have the stereotypes checked off! Let me tell you a bit about where I'm from. I live in rural NSW almost on the border of NSW and VIC. The border is marked by the Murray River, a river that runs through the whole of Australia.

Next post I'll give a run down of the family farm!
